In Luke 10:27 Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” I believe this is best accomplished by finding a sustainable rhythm of food, work and rest, which is actually the first wellness prescription God gave to human beings! (Genesis 1:28-2:2). I know how hard it is to achieve this on our own strength; my personal journey toward wellness began in my late teens as I sought control of my life through food and exercise. Anorexia and obsessive behaviors had a hold of me, and I was left feeling no freedom at all.

Through a steady transformation in body, mind & soul, God has freed me from this bondage for over twenty years now. I am passionate about helping others achieve the same freedom and truly thrive in body, mind & spirit. Through teaching, counseling, and coaching, I have the privilege of providing tools to empower others on their journey toward optimal holistic health.

I have helped individuals pursue greater holistic health my entire life. At 17 years old, I began teaching group fitness classes and became a certified instructor through the American Council on Exercise and taught classes for 17 years at many hospitals and health clubs. I became a Registered Dietitian and later received my Master of Arts in Religion from Trinity International University. For the past 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work with people on both ends of the weight management spectrum – from special needs children needing to gain weight (Children with Medical Handicaps), to helping adults and teens lose weight as part of a hospital’s medically managed weight loss programs. Most recently, I became a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach because I love helping people tap into their own strengths and motivators to achieve greater wellness in their lives.

Education:

  • Master of Arts in Religion, Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois, 2001
  • Women’s Ministry Internship, The Chapel in Akron, Ohio, 1998-2001
  • Dietetic Internship, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, 1997
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, Western Kentucky University, 1996

MISSION

To equip you with tools to build healthy, sustainable habits for optimal well-being so you can thrive in body, mind and spirit!

Why health coaching?

As a registered dietitian, I have been a part of America’s healthcare system of providers for over 20 years. Our work will help you proactively prevent illness and disease.

The World Health Organization defines wellness as “a complete state of physical, mental & social wellbeing; not merely the absence of disease.” Holistic health and wellness coaching is a journey to discovering what nourishes you, which is not only the food on our plate, but also other areas that impact our well-being. We identify five factors that play a vital role, so I have created the acronym PROMS to remember the five aspects of wellness: physical, relational, occupational, mental, and spiritual. All five aspects are part of your well-being that maximizes your potential.

Why it works

Ditch the diet mentality! A diet can be constraining and leave you feeling frustrated. Maintaining a healthy weight requires transformation: first in our mindset, and then in our skill set. My philosophy is to reframe the idea of wellness to focus on the five factors that affect our wellbeing, not just the food on your plate. Physical, relational, occupational, mental and spiritual factors have an equal impact on our overall health. A healthy lifestyle results in reduced medical expenses, less stress, increased energy, and improved self-confidence. I help you tap into your creativity and motivation to change your behaviors, one choice at a time, into a sustainable lifestyle. Equipping others to transform their daily lives in body, mind and spirit unlocks their potential to thrive in all areas of life, and is why I love doing what I do!

Work With Me

Through my individualized coaching program I will lead you through the following phases:

1. Personal Assessment
To start this journey, you will complete a wellness assessment to determine the areas where you feel that you are flourishing, as well as to uncover areas that could use more attention.  This assessment includes information about your health history and goals, food preferences and patterns, your unique lifestyle needs and desires, family schedule & rhythms, skills, values and beliefs regarding food and healthy living.
As your health coach, I come alongside you to help you tap into your strengths, interests, and resources, while supporting you every step of the way toward truly thriving in your life.

2. Initial Consult: What’s your story?
We’ll discuss everything about you; review your assessment and your goals, and create your initial customized plan. This appointment is typically around 1 hour long.

3. Customized Plan
Your holistic wellness plan is determined by you!  Your plan may include elements of nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep, spiritual health, job or relational wellbeing.  You and I create what it includes based on your energy & motivation.  For many people, they find more freedom with food than ever.  Whatever your goals, whether it is to gain weight, lose weight or maintain your weight & improve other areas of well-being, I am here to support and guide you on that journey.

4. Ongoing Support – Follow Up Sessions
After your initial consultation, each follow up session will be about 30 minutes long. In these sessions, we’ll check in on your progress, set mutually agreed upon small goals for you to work on, and adjust as needed every step of the way. In the beginning, in order to meet your goals and continue moving forward, we’ll usually meet once a week or once every other week.

Testimonials

With Heather, I'm not doing a diet. I'm changing my eating, and with that will come benefits and rewards. My clothes fit better, I have more energy, and I feel more comfortable in my skin.

MF

Food and nutrition are some of the tools in my toolbox for maintaining my mental health & stability. And that gives me control. Heather also helped me figure out what physical activity works for me. I was picking the wrong activities for me; I needed to get outside and into nature instead of going to a gym. Even in winter. I also found a better time of day, on my lunch, that works for me.

CG

I had the pleasure of hearing Heather speak at an event. She is awe-inspiring and a powerful and motivational speaker. She has such a heart for the Lord and individuals. I encourage you to take a leap of faith and reach out to Heather for all your nutritional needs.

JB

Figuring out why I eat for emotional reasons has been frustrating, enlightening, and extremely transformative.
